A Case Study on Family Therapy for A College Student with Panic Disorder - Focused on The Lifespan-Psychological Difficulties and Nurturing Attitude

Abstract
The aim of the study is to explore the lifespan-psychological difficulties, nurturing attitudes, and effectiveness of family therapy for a college student with panic disorder through a family therapy case including client, family members, and girl friend. The findings of study are as follows. First, the lifespan-psychological difficulties of client included childhood(abandoned feelings), adolescent(exclusion and isolation), and youth(rising interpersonal anxiety, oppression and shrinking, transference and excessive anxiety). The lifespan-psychological difficulties of client were related to parental nurturing methods. Second, the client¡¯s parental nurturing methods included the dictatorship and abusing power, the absence of emotional caring, the pressure of achievement, self-defensive behavior, facilitation of psychological isolation. Third, the parents¡¯ coping method, which changed through family therapy, influenced to ameliorate the client¡¯s panic disorder symptom. The findings of the study showed that the client with panic disorder in youth revealed consistently panic disorder symptom due to his parents¡¯ nurturing attitudes and psychological difficulties through the developmental lifespan of a client. Based on the results of the study, the researcher suggested the family therapeutic strategy for the clients with panic disorder.
